What Are the Most Common Pool Heater Error Codes?
Having a pool heater installed with your backyard pool can provide it with a whole host of benefits. Keeping your pool’s water at a comfortable temperature allows it to be used all year round, even when the colder months arrive.Typically, pool heaters offer great longevity and are fairly long-lasting.
However, from time to time, you may notice error codes appear on your heater’s console that indicate a fault may have occurred. In these instances, it’s important to act fast in order to get your heater working again and prevent further issues from arising.
Here at Backyard Paradise Luxury Pools, we work with leading pool heater manufacturers Jandy and Fluidra and have put together a handy guide of some of the most common error codes you may come across, and how to fix them.
Jandy error codes
Check IGN control
This error code suggests there may be a problem with the ignition control system. This could be a faulty ignition control module or wiring issues and will likely need professional help to rectify.
AGS (Automatic Gas Shutdown)
This means the pool heater has detected a fault during the ignition sequence. Usually, this means the heater will automatically shut down for safety reasons and could be a result of a gas issue, ignition problem, or other safety concerns. Again, call for professional support if this is the case.

Flame failure
This warning indicates that the heater has detected a flame failure during the ignition process. This could be for a number of reasons, including gas supply issues, a blocked gas valve, or a faulty sensor. Your local pool technician should be able to accurately identify the problem.
Service or call service
If you see this warning, it means there is a serious problem with your pool heater and a professional service is required. You could have a problem with internal components, sensors, or circuitry.
Fault
You may just get a general ‘fault’ error code from your heater’s console. This won’t provide any specific information about the problem, but it indicates that you should check for other error codes and consult the owner’s manual.
Fluidra error codes
E01 or ERR01
Usually, this code will indicate a flow sensor issue. It could be caused by a lack of water flow through the heater, a malfunctioning flow sensor, or a blockage in the plumbing.
E02 or ERR02
This error code could point to the fact that the high-temperature limit switch is tripping due to excessively high temperatures. This might be due to poor water flow, a problem with the thermostat, or other factors.
E05 or ERR05
This error code relates to an ignition or flame failure. It could be caused by issues with the gas supply, a blocked gas valve, or a faulty ignition control. Call in professional support to help identify the problem.
E06 or ERR06
An error code like this indicates an issue with the pressure switch or a pressure-related problem. This could be insufficient gas pressure, and you should get a professional to assess the problem immediately.
E07 or ERR07
This error code signifies a problem with the temperature sensor. Usually, this will be a result of a malfunctioning sensor or wiring.
E09 or ERR09
A problem with the heater’s combustion air pressure switch is normally the reason for this code. It might be due to issues with the air intake or exhaust but a professional technician will be able to accurately diagnose what has gone wrong.
